When I first started reading this article, I was planning on posting it to this blog with some sort of comment about the author’s interesting viewpoint on how significant older buildings should be “allowed to die gracefully.” But once I saw the pictures all I had to say was “WOW”- this is a must read.
Fascinating article on the Civil War submarine the Hunley. I have always enjoyed reading about the discovery of sunken vessels, since pouring over Robert Ballard’s discovery of the Titanic when I was nine. This article is a good read.
Interesting article on the tough times history museums are facing in getting audiences engaged. This is a topic we talk constantly about at conferences. What do you think? Would more “technological” interpretation encourage you to visit a history museum or historic site?
An amazing time capsule discovered in the attic of an old New York asylum. Dozens of suitcases from patients who never left. Beautiful and heartbreaking- I was particularly moved by the blank stationary and the thoughts of letters never written.
This is a great website that combines historic photos with google maps- pairing the old with the new. It also allows just about anyone to get into the action that has been hitting headlines lately.
This is a wonderful and large collection of Civil War ambrotypes. This will be great for sites and museums planning Civil War exhibits (LOC is wonderful about giving access to high quality digital images).
